We are staffed by two Lecturers and 13 NHS Consultants in adult urology, each with their own sub-specialist areas of interest. Together, the Consultant staff now provide a full range of urological expertise.
Urology is a surgical specialty which deals with diseases of the urinary/reproductive tracts in men and with urinary disease in women. Although we are surgeons, only 15-20% of patients referred to us by GPs actually require surgery. So, if you are referred to our department, this does not mean you will automatically be advised to have an operation.
Please note: The Cambridge Urology Department does not perform kidney transplantation.

Referrals
We can only accept referrals from your GP or from a hospital consultant. If you do have an urological problem you should visit your GP first, they can then decide whether a referral is necessary or appropriate.
We regret that self-instigated referrals, unsolicited referrals by e-mail and requests for opinions (by post or e-mail) will not be answered by the Department.
Once you have been referred by your GP, you will be able to schedule an outpatient appointment. We may arrange for you to undergo some tests in advance of your appointment to speed up the diagnostic process.
